Germany’s services sector moved closer to growth territory in July, as the HCOB Germany Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 49.8 from a previous reading of 48.6. Although the indicator remains just below the 50.0 threshold that separates contraction from expansion, the improvement signals a tentative stabilization in activity.

Both the previous and current readings are dated July 2026, with the latest update to the data published on 5 August 2026. The uptick from 48.6 to 49.8 suggests that the downturn in Germany’s services economy may be easing, with underlying business conditions deteriorating at a slower pace.

While the index has yet to confirm a return to outright growth, the narrowing gap to the neutral 50 mark will likely be watched closely by investors and policymakers as a potential early sign that momentum in the services sector is beginning to recover.
